Rapid City Regional Airport has added a full-scale replica of a Triceratops skull that is now on display inside the terminal near the TSA security checkpoint. The exhibit, installed through a partnership with the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research, will remain in place for about a year.
Airport officials say the display offers visitors an immediate connection to the region’s natural history and prehistoric past.
Institute President Peter Larson said the airport exhibit is designed to spark curiosity and encourage visitors to explore more of the Black Hills’ paleontological offerings.
Airport staff say the display has already attracted attention from travelers, with many stopping to take photos before continuing through security.
