Pennington County officials are warning residents about a continuing email scam in which fraudulent messages falsely appear to come from the Planning & Zoning Department.
The scam emails typically include fake invoices and detailed instructions urging recipients to make payments or take immediate action. Officials stress that these communications are not legitimate and are not sent by the county.
“We want residents to know that these emails are still circulating and that they should remain cautious,” said Planning & Zoning Director Brittney Hand. “If you receive an invoice or instructions from someone claiming to represent our department, do not assume it is legitimate.”
The department noted it does not routinely send invoices by email, and most official transactions are handled directly through its office. Residents are urged to avoid clicking links, downloading attachments, or submitting payments in response to unsolicited messages.
Officials encourage anyone who receives a suspicious email to contact the Planning & Zoning Department directly to verify its authenticity.
