Thirteen new South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers graduated Friday in Fort Pierre and will soon begin serving communities across the state following more than 30 weeks of intensive training.
The recruits completed a comprehensive program that included law enforcement academy instruction, Highway Patrol-specific training and hands-on field experience. During the ceremony, Superintendent Col. Casey Collins commended the graduates for earning the trust and responsibility that comes with wearing the trooper uniform.
South Dakota Chief Justice Steven R. Jensen delivered the keynote address, urging the graduates to uphold integrity, fairness and respect as they begin their law enforcement careers.
Several new troopers have been assigned to western South Dakota, with Camen Max, Lilja McKendry, July Schmidt and Carter Spear stationed in Rapid City, and Lance Palmer assigned to Spearfish. Others will serve in Sioux Falls, Pierre, Brookings, Vermillion, Beresford and Kadoka.
