A fundraiser has been organized to support Interior Volunteer Fire Department Captain and Engine Boss John Jessen after he was seriously injured while responding to the South Fork Fire near Crawford, Nebraska.
Jessen sustained a severe break to his right leg on June 14, along with extensive damage to his knee while fighting the wildfire. He was initially airlifted to Scottsbluff, Nebraska, before being transferred to a hospital in Loveland, Colorado, where he remains hospitalized and has undergone multiple surgeries.
Organizers say the fundraiser will help cover mounting medical expenses, travel costs for family members, and provide financial support during what is expected to be a lengthy recovery. Jessen is a husband and father of five and will be unable to work as he heals.
Community members and supporters can contribute through an online fundraising page established in his honor.
