A vehicle fire briefly disrupted traffic and ignited a small grass fire along Highway 44 West near Rimrock Hill around noon Monday.
According to responding agencies, a westbound vehicle apparently overheated and caught fire, with flames spreading to nearby grass along the roadway.
Rapid City Fire Department Engine 5 was the first unit to arrive on scene and was soon assisted by the Johnson Siding Fire Department.
Fire crews quickly extinguished both the burning vehicle and the grass.
No injuries were reported. However, officials said the vehicle was a total loss.
Traffic in the area experienced minor delays while emergency crews worked to contain the incident and clear the scene.
