A juvenile died Monday evening following an ATV rollover crash in a rural area of Lawrence County.
Authorities said the crash occurred when an ATV carrying two riders rolled over an embankment. The juvenile sustained critical injuries in the crash.
Family members of the injured juvenile called 911 and immediately began lifesaving efforts while awaiting emergency responders.
Personnel from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and Spearfish Ambulance Service responded to the scene and took over emergency medical care. Despite their efforts, the juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash in cooperation with the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Officials have not released the identity of the deceased juvenile.
The investigation remains ongoing.
