City officials in Summerset are considering limiting access to the community’s recycling and yard waste collection sites after determining that heavy use by non-residents is increasing disposal costs.
Mayor Michael Kitzmiller said the city is evaluating options that would restrict the facilities to Summerset residents in an effort to protect city resources. Officials estimate that use by people living outside the city is adding approximately $1,000 per month in disposal expenses.
Kitzmiller said the review is intended to ensure taxpayer-funded services primarily benefit city residents while maintaining the level of service currently provided.
The city has not announced any specific restrictions or a timeline for implementing changes. Officials said they are continuing to examine possible solutions that balance cost control with public access.
Residents with questions about the proposal are encouraged to contact Summerset City Hall for additional information.
