A suspicious package discovered in the parking lot of a Keystone business prompted an evacuation Friday evening as law enforcement and emergency responders worked to ensure public safety.
According to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the report at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday. Based on information available at the scene, authorities evacuated the immediate area as a precaution while the incident was investigated.
The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Bomb Squad was called to the scene and safely evaluated the package. After bomb technicians determined the item posed no threat, the area was reopened to the public.
Multiple agencies assisted with the response, including the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and Pennington County Search and Rescue.
No injuries were reported, and officials have not released additional details about the package.
