Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken endorsed Gov. Larry Rhoden’s gubernatorial campaign Monday, citing the administration’s support for Sioux Falls through projects including airport expansion, additional Highway Patrol resources, a new state men’s prison and efforts to retain the Smithfield Foods plant.
Speaking at Rhoden’s Sioux Falls campaign headquarters, TenHaken praised the governor’s record, saying, “There’s a lot of things in the last 18 months that this guy has gotten done.”
Rhoden thanked TenHaken for the endorsement and emphasized Sioux Falls’ importance to South Dakota’s economy.
Opponent Toby Doeden responded on social media, criticizing Rhoden’s economic record and arguing the state needs new direction.
The endorsement gives Rhoden support from one of South Dakota’s most prominent local elected officials as the governor’s race continues to develop.
