The South Dakota Department of Education and South Dakota State Library have named 16 school libraries and librarians as recipients of the 2026-2029 School Achievement Through Libraries (SATL) Award.
The award recognizes outstanding school library programs that demonstrate excellence in the areas of programming, learning environments, and professional practice. Schools must complete a rigorous application process and provide evidence of how their libraries support student academic success and personal growth.
“School librarians and libraries far exceed the reputation of providing a place to read,” said Scottie Bruch, training coordinator for the South Dakota State Library.
Recipients include libraries in the Custer, and Hermosa and librarian Doris Ann Mertz. The schools and librarians will be formally recognized this fall.
