With extreme summer temperatures gripping South Dakota, AAA is reminding motorists to inspect their vehicles before heading out on long trips.
The organization says intense heat can put added stress on tires, batteries, cooling systems, and vehicle fluids. Drivers are encouraged to check tire pressure, inspect batteries for corrosion, and ensure coolant, oil, and other critical fluids are at proper levels.
AAA also recommends examining belts and hoses for wear and confirming air conditioning systems are working properly.
In addition, the group warns never to leave children, older adults, or pets unattended in parked vehicles, where interior temperatures can rise to dangerous levels within minutes.
AAA says preventive maintenance can help drivers avoid breakdowns and stay safe during the peak summer travel season.
