The Rapid City Public Works Committee will consider contracts Tuesday to demolish 28 condemned garages and sheds in the Star Village neighborhood after property owner Tzadik Management failed to meet city-ordered removal deadlines.
If approved by the City Council next week, demolition work would begin Aug. 10, with the $133,500 cost assessed to the property owner.
City officials say the structures pose safety hazards due to severe deterioration and note Tzadik owes more than $533,000 in unpaid utility bills citywide, including more than $344,000 at Star Village. The City has also condemned six vacant homes in the neighborhood and continues efforts to address ongoing code violations and safety concerns.
