Rapid City tied a nearly two-decade-old heat record Tuesday after reaching 102 degrees both downtown and at Rapid City Regional Airport, marking the city’s fourth consecutive day of temperatures at or above 100 degrees. The streak matches the previous record set in 2007.
Forecasters say the record could be broken today , with triple-digit temperatures remaining possible through the weekend as an extended heat wave continues across western South Dakota.
The National Weather Service has the Rapid City area under a Heat Advisory through 9 p.m. Thursday, with dangerously hot daytime temperatures and limited overnight relief expected.
