Two crews from the Piedmont Fire Department are headed to Grand Junction, Colorado, to assist with ongoing wildfire response efforts.
The firefighters will be assigned to either an active wildfire or new incidents as needed in the region, where the Knowles Fire burned last month. The Knowles Fire has since merged with the Snyder Fire and other wildfires, scorching more than 30,000 acres.
Meanwhile, the deaths of three firefighters during the Knowles Fire remain under investigation by a serious accident team from the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Piedmont officials said the deployment is part of ongoing mutual aid efforts to support wildfire suppression in the region.
