Authorities have identified the man found dead at a hotel at 1313 N. Lacrosse St. as 33-year-old Jason Horned Eagle of Rapid City.
An autopsy has been completed, but investigators are awaiting toxicology and additional forensic test results to determine the cause of death. Detectives believe Horned Eagle’s body had been left in the hotel room for several months.
Three people have been arrested on charges of Improper Disposal of a Body after investigators determined they knew of the death and allegedly attempted to conceal the body. Those arrested are Barbara Diaz, 51; Diana Hairy Shirt, 29; and Walter Cordon, 50, all of Rapid City.
The investigation remains active and is being conducted jointly by the Rapid City Police Department and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective James Halterman at 605-394-4134.
