RAPID CITY, S.D. — Record-breaking temperatures again scorched the Rapid City area as the region experienced dangerous heat and triple-digit highs. Regional Airport hit an all time record high of 112 degrees beating the previous record of 111 set on July 15, 2006, Downtown Rapid City also recorded 110 degrees topping the previous record of 107 set on July 9 and July 12th of 1954.
Yesterdays high of 105 at the airport and 103 downtown marked the 3rd straight day of triple-digit highs. The airport has seen 10 days over 100 in July while downtown has broken the century mark 9 times. The forecast calls for highs again near 100 for today before a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms later this afternoon.
