RAPID CITY, S.D. — Pennington County officials say county offices remain open and operational as recovery efforts continue following a recent cybersecurity incident, though some services remain limited and delays are expected.
The Treasurer’s Office has resumed processing motor vehicle transactions and is accepting all forms of payment, but reduced processing capacity means longer wait times. Officials are encouraging residents to use the state’s online vehicle services and self-service kiosks when possible.
The Register of Deeds Office has resumed processing vital records requests, while Planning and Zoning continues normal operations despite some delays. County Commission meetings are continuing as scheduled and are being livestreamed, though technical limitations may affect quality.
County email systems remain unavailable, but phone lines are operational. The Auditor’s Office is unable to process lien payments, and the Treasurer’s real estate queue system has not yet been restored.
County IT staff, working with state and federal partners, continue to investigate and remediate the incident. Officials said there is currently no action required from the public and noted that anyone affected by a potential exposure of protected personal information would be notified directly.
