RAPID CITY, S.D. — City officials say a recent cyber incident involving one of Rapid City’s wastewater lift stations was quickly identified and contained, with no impact to the city’s water or wastewater infrastructure systems.
According to the City of Rapid City, officials discovered an attempted cybersecurity breach targeting a lift station that is part of the municipal wastewater system. The city said precautionary measures were immediately taken to protect the system.
Officials emphasized that at no time were the city’s water or wastewater operations placed in jeopardy and assured residents that Rapid City’s drinking water supply remains safe and secure.
The city is currently working with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and other appropriate federal partners as the incident is investigated.
The incident remains under review by city officials and federal cybersecurity partners.
