RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Area Schools officials promoted a proposed $107 million bond issue at Friday’s Black Hills Forum & Press Club luncheon, outlining plans for HVAC upgrades, security improvements, facility renovations and a new elementary school at the Parkview site.
Chief Finance and Operations Officer Coy Sasse said the bond would provide dedicated funding for major projects, while failure of the measure would force the district to rely on its capital outlay fund for building needs.
The proposal will go before voters on Nov. 3 and must receive 60% approval to pass. No Rapid City school bond issue has passed since the state adopted the supermajority requirement in 1973.
The district has scheduled a series of public information meetings ahead of the election, with details available at rcas.org/page/bond-information.
