EAGLE BUTTE, S.D. — An Eagle Butte man died after being struck by a vehicle in an apparent hit-and-run incident Tuesday, according to the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Department of Law Enforcement.
Officers responded Aug. 4 to a report of a vehicle striking a male pedestrian. Responding officers provided medical aid before the victim was transported to the Cheyenne River Health Center, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
Authorities said the suspect vehicle fled the scene, but investigators later located the vehicle and took a suspect into custody.
The incident remains under investigation. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Department of Law Enforcement is working with the FBI and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services.
