STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade 46-1 School Board discussed potential district boundary reorganization plans during its August meeting Monday night after learning the Faith School District has declined to pursue the proposal.
The plan would have transferred schools in central and eastern Meade County, including Opal, Hereford, Elm Springs, and Central Meade County schools, into the Faith School District. The proposal involved approximately $297 million in taxable valuation.
However, the board was informed that the Faith School Board voted in July not to move forward with the reorganization. As a result, supporters of the proposal have approached the Wall School District with a similar plan.
Superintendent Wayne Wormstadt said the Meade 46-1 School Board will need to determine whether it wants to discuss reorganization options with Wall or possibly the New Underwood School District in the future.
