PINE RIDGE, S.D – A Pine Ridge man has been convicted on a federal drug trafficking charge following a three-day trial in Rapid City.
Federal prosecutors say 41-year-old Clayton High Wolf Jr. was found guilty of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Authorities say the conspiracy began in October of 2024 and involved distributing meth within the reservation community.
Investigators arrested High Wolf after a high-speed pursuit through residential streets in Pine Ridge. Law enforcement officers reportedly recovered about 90 grams of methamphetamine when he was taken into custody.
The case was investigated by the Badlands Safe Trails Task Force, a multi-agency effort involving federal, state, and tribal law enforcement.
The conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison. High Wolf also faces a possible fine of up to $10 million and at least five years of supervised release.
A presentence investigation will be completed before sentencing. High Wolf remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
