RAPID CITY, S.D. — Cliffside Park has reopened after law enforcement investigated a suspicious item discovered near a garbage can.
Earlier, Rapid City Police temporarily closed the park after officers and park rangers responded to reports of the item.
Authorities said the object appeared to be a possible improvised explosive device following an initial inspection. Additional state resources with expertise in handling explosives were called in to assist with evaluating the item and ensuring the situation was resolved safely.
During the investigation, officials asked the public to avoid the area and follow directions from law enforcement.
Police have not released additional details about the item or the findings of the investigation. No injuries have been reported.
The park has since reopened, and authorities continue to investigate the incident.
