RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City is launching a citywide effort to assess the condition of its streets and sidewalks.
Beginning today, crews with Michael Baker International will spend the next two to three weeks collecting pavement data and images on roadways and sidewalks throughout the city as part of the Pavement Condition Index, or PCI, program.
The information gathered will help city officials evaluate infrastructure conditions, prioritize future maintenance and rehabilitation projects, and support long-term pavement management planning.
Residents may notice a white van marked “Michael Baker International” traveling through neighborhoods and along city streets during the survey process. The Public Works Department is asking motorists to use caution around the vehicle and allow crews space to safely collect data.
City officials say no action is required from residents and thank the public for its patience during the project.
