RAPID CITY, S.D. – Drivers across western South Dakota can expect ongoing road and bridge work as several transportation projects move forward.
In the Rapid City area, bridge deck repairs begin today on Highway 44 in Farmingdale, Highway 16B over the railroad, and Omaha Street near Waterloo Street. Motorists should plan for lane reductions, flaggers, and possible delays through mid-October.
In Spearfish, crews have reached major milestones on the reconstruction of the Highway 85, Old Highway 14, and Interstate 90 Exit 10 interchange area. The project is designed to improve safety and traffic flow, with additional work planned throughout September.
Meanwhile, resurfacing and shoulder-widening projects on Highway 34 near Howes and Highway 73 south of Faith are nearly complete, with final pavement markings and culvert repairs wrapping up.
Looking ahead, the South Dakota Department of Transportation is also seeking public input on a proposed Highway 385 improvement project near Strawberry Hill in Lawrence County. The proposal would straighten a curve and realign the picnic area entrance, with public comments being accepted through September 11th.
