RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City residents may notice a specially marked vehicle traveling through neighborhoods over the next several weeks as the City conducts a review of local streets and sidewalks.
The Public Works Department says Michael Baker International has begun collecting data as part of the City’s Pavement Condition Index, or PCI, assessment. The project is expected to take two to three weeks to complete.
Crews will gather information on pavement conditions, street images, sidewalk images, and other infrastructure data to help the City evaluate roadway and sidewalk conditions and prioritize future maintenance and repair projects.
Motorists may see a white van marked “Michael Baker International” traveling throughout Rapid City. City officials are asking drivers to use caution and give the vehicle plenty of space so crews can safely collect data.
No action is required from residents. The information gathered will support the City’s ongoing pavement management program and help guide future infrastructure improvements.
