RAPID CITY, S.D. – A regional transportation improvement plan totaling millions of dollars in road, bridge, airport, and transit projects is heading before Rapid City committees this week.
The Rapid City Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 2027 through 2030 Transportation Improvement Program is scheduled for review by the Public Works Committee Tuesday and the Legal and Finance Committee on Wednesday.
The four-year plan serves as a funding and priority guide for transportation projects across Rapid City, Box Elder, Summerset, Piedmont, Ellsworth Air Force Base, and portions of Pennington and Meade counties.
Major investments identified in the report include nearly $45.8 million for Rapid City Regional Airport improvements, $21 million for Box Elder capital projects, $18.4 million for Rapid City infrastructure projects, $3 million for Meade County roads and bridges, and $2 million for Pennington County Road and bridge work.
Among the largest Rapid City projects are the $8.9 million Skyline Drive Rehabilitation Project, $4.5 million Eglin Street Reconstruction Project, $3 million Valley Drive Reconstruction Project, and nearly $3 million for West Boulevard reconstruction. Several bridge replacement projects and additional roadway improvements are also included in the plan.
Officials say the Transportation Improvement Program helps match transportation needs with available funding while guiding future infrastructure improvements throughout the region.
