PLANKINTON, S.D. – A 36-year-old Arizona man has been arrested in South Dakota after authorities located a vehicle connected to the abduction of a 15-year-old Wyoming girl.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says the state’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was alerted Monday afternoon by Wyoming investigators searching for the suspect and victim. Using license plate reader technology, law enforcement tracked the vehicle and stopped it on Interstate 90 near the Aurora County line east of Plankinton less than an hour later.
Authorities identified the suspect as Dalton Renollet of Maricopa, Arizona. He has been charged in Aurora County with sexual contact with a minor.
The missing teenager was found safe.
Officials say the vehicle was initially believed to be headed toward Arizona, but investigators were able to locate it in South Dakota through technology that helped quickly identify its location.
The Aurora County State’s Attorney’s Office is handling the South Dakota case, and additional charges are expected in Wyoming.
