SPEARFISH, S.D. – A Spearfish woman is facing a felony charge after being accused of embezzling money from the Spearfish Rams youth football organization.
According to court records, 39-year-old Ashley Spilman has been charged with grand theft by embezzlement involving more than $2,500 but less than $5,000. An indictment was filed August 26, and an arrest warrant was issued Monday.
Investigators allege the money was taken from the Spearfish Rams organization earlier this year. In June, the Rams’ board of directors notified the public that some donations and sponsorship funds made between December 2025 and June 2026 were never received by the organization.
The board says it has implemented additional financial oversight measures and is cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
The case marks the second time the Spearfish Rams organization has been connected to an embezzlement case. In 2018, a former commissioner pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges involving several local youth sports organizations.
The charge against Spilman is a Class 5 felony, and the case is now moving through the court system.
