RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man has pleaded no contest to second-degree manslaughter in connection with a 2024 fatal shooting that killed a local teenager.
Isaiah Taha appeared in Pennington County Court on Tuesday and entered the plea as part of an agreement with prosecutors. Authorities say 16-year-old Kade Potter was shot and killed inside a vehicle in 2024 with a stolen Smith & Wesson pistol.
Taha had originally been charged with first-degree manslaughter, grand theft, possession or consumption of alcohol by a minor, and obstructing law enforcement.
Under the plea agreement, the manslaughter charge was reduced from first-degree to second-degree, and the remaining charges were dismissed.
A no-contest plea means the defendant does not admit guilt but accepts a conviction and sentencing as if a guilty plea had been entered.
Taha is scheduled to be sentenced on September 30 at 9 a.m. in Pennington County Court.
