RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City’s iconic Dinosaur Park dinosaur will be glowing blue this weekend in honor of South Dakota Mines and the Hardrockers’ home football opener.
City officials say “Dino” will be lit blue Friday evening and Saturday night to recognize South Dakota Mines, which was founded in 1885 and is known nationally for its engineering, science, and technology programs.
The special lighting coincides with the Hardrockers’ home opener against Southwest Baptist, scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at O’Harra Stadium.
Dinosaur Park’s signature dinosaur is periodically illuminated in different colors to recognize special events, activities, and community observances approved by the mayor.
Officials say the blue lighting is a way to celebrate South Dakota Mines and show community support for the university as it begins its home football season.
The special display will be visible Friday and Saturday nights overlooking Rapid City.
