PINE RIDGE, S.D. – Fire crews continue making progress on a wildfire on the Pine Ridge Reservation that has burned more than 6,000 acres.
According to Watch Duty, the combined Needles and Event fires are now 30 percent contained. Ground crews and aerial resources are continuing suppression efforts, focusing on establishing and strengthening control lines around the fire.
Updated mapping shows a new fire perimeter as firefighters work to limit further growth of the blaze.
Officials caution that the mapped fire perimeter is preliminary and does not reflect ongoing structure protection operations taking place in and around affected areas.
Firefighters remain on scene as containment efforts continue.
