MURDO, S.D. – A 20-year-old Murdo man has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in federal prison for hitting a man with his vehicle on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation.
Dane Menard was sentenced Monday in federal court after pleading guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Prosecutors say the incident happened in March of 2025 near White River, when Menard struck a man with his vehicle in a residential driveway.
The victim suffered a broken arm and a broken ankle and required hospitalization.
In addition to a 30-month prison sentence, Menard will serve three years of supervised release and must pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The case was investigated by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and prosecuted under the Major Crimes Act. Menard was taken into U.S. Marshals Service custody following his sentencing.
