RAPID CITY, S.D. – Governor Larry Rhoden has announced a one-million-dollar investment to help establish a new national security and defense industry hub in Rapid City.
The funding will support a new facility in the Rapid City Innovation District, where defense contractor Northrop Grumman will serve as the anchor tenant. Northrop Grumman is the manufacturer of the B-21 Raider, the next-generation stealth bomber that will soon be based at Ellsworth Air Force Base.
State leaders say the project is designed to attract additional defense, aerospace, cybersecurity, and national security companies to western South Dakota, creating new jobs and economic opportunities.
The investment is part of a larger $ 18 million effort by Elevate Rapid City to expand the Innovation District and support future growth tied to Ellsworth’s B-21 mission.
Officials say the move marks another step in establishing South Dakota as a growing center for the national security industry.
