RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Workplace Disability Network of the Black Hills is launching new initiatives ahead of National Disability Employment Awareness Month to help employers create more accessible and inclusive workplaces.
The organization has introduced an interactive training program called Breaking Barriers, which gives business owners, managers, human resources professionals, and employees a firsthand look at the challenges people with disabilities can face in the workplace.
Executive Director Heidi Mecham says the goal is to help businesses confidently hire, support, and retain workers with disabilities.
The group has also launched a new Accessible Workplace Ally Program, recognizing businesses that successfully implement workplace accommodations. KOTA-TV received the program’s first award.
Training sessions are scheduled for October 8th in Rapid City and October 14th in Deadwood, with registration available through the Workplace Disability Network of the Black Hills website.
