RAPID CITY, S.D. – Volunteer firefighters from across Pennington County will have an opportunity this fall to sharpen their skills through a new regional training program hosted by the Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
The three-part series, called Engine Company Fundamentals, will provide free hands-on training for area fire departments in October, November, and December.
The first session, scheduled for October 17th, will focus on hoseline operations, including hose deployment, nozzle techniques, and advancing lines during structure fires. Future classes will cover search and rescue tactics and forcible entry techniques.
Training Captain Jim Bussell says the program is designed to help firefighters become more effective and build consistency among departments that often respond together during major emergencies.
Officials say the training will also give firefighters a chance to work with their own equipment and strengthen relationships with neighboring departments before real emergencies occur.
Participation is free for firefighters, but space is limited. The first class will be held at the Rapid Valley Fire Station.
