WASHINGTON, D.C. – Independent U.S. Senate candidate Brian Bengs is responding after a verbal confrontation with a protester outside the U.S. Capitol was captured on video last week.
The incident occurred while Bengs was in Washington, D.C., advocating for congressional action on issues involving artificial intelligence, data centers, and technology policy. Video shows Bengs arguing with a protester who was criticizing Nebraska independent Senate candidate Dan Osborn and questioning his political affiliation.
Political analysts say the timing could be significant as absentee voting is already underway and more voters begin paying attention to the race.
The Bengs campaign issued a statement saying the candidate was standing up to what it described as a paid agitator who was encroaching on the personal space of campaign staff and attempting to distract from policy issues.
Bengs is challenging incumbent U.S. Senator Mike Rounds in this year’s election.
