RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Legal and Finance Committee will consider several grant awards Wednesday, including a nearly $2.5 million FEMA grant aimed at improving community resilience and modernizing city operations.
The federal funding would help Rapid City upgrade permitting technology, transition to the 2024 International Fire Code, and develop plans to address substandard structures throughout the city.
Committee members will also review three grants from the Gwendolyn Stearns Foundation. The funding includes $18,000 for replacing dead and storm-damaged trees in city parks, $5,000 for landscaping improvements along Mount Rushmore Road, and $5,000 to support the RSVP+ volunteer program for residents under age 55.
In addition to grant requests, the committee is scheduled to discuss a proposed artificial intelligence policy for the city and review the final report from the Railyard Relocation and Railway Configuration Study.
The meeting begins at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Rapid City City Hall council chambers and is open to the public.
