PIERRE, S.D. South Dakota is investing more than $13 million in behavioral health services through a series of grants aimed at expanding mental health care, especially in rural communities.
The funding includes 12 grants to support Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics through the state’s Rural Health Transformation program. Officials say the money will help providers increase capacity, improve crisis response services, upgrade technology, and strengthen the behavioral health workforce.
Organizations receiving support include West River Mental Health, Avera Behavioral Health, Capital Area Counseling, Community Counseling Services, and Northeastern Mental Health Center.
Governor Larry Rhoden says the investment is part of a broader effort to improve access to health care across rural South Dakota. The grants support a model designed to provide more comprehensive behavioral health services and improve access to care for residents statewide.
