RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City offices will be closed Monday, October 12, in observance of Native Americans’ Day, resulting in several changes to city services and operations.
Trash collection normally scheduled for Monday will be delayed until Tuesday, while Tuesday through Friday collections will remain on their regular schedule. The Rapid City Landfill, Rapid Transit System, Rapid City Public Library, and The Monument will also be closed for the holiday.
Essential services, including police and fire operations, will continue, although administrative offices will be closed. The Rapid City Regional Airport will remain open, but administrative staff will not be on duty.
Recreation facilities will maintain limited holiday hours. Roosevelt Park Swim Center will be open for public swimming, and the Roosevelt Park Ice Arena will host a public skating session Monday afternoon.
The holiday weekend will also feature the 38th Annual He Sapa Wacipi Na Oskate Black Hills Pow Wow at The Monument, running Friday through Sunday, along with the annual Indigenous Peoples Day Parade in downtown Rapid City on Saturday morning.
