DEADWOOD, S.D. – Lawrence County commissioners are expected to decide Tuesday whether to approve a zoning change for more than 100 acres on Mattson Lane near Deadwood.
Developer David Winter is requesting that the property be rezoned from park forest to a planned unit development, paving the way for a large mixed-use project. Preliminary plans include cabins, single- and multi-family housing, retail space, recreational amenities, and a large community complex known as “The Ark at Majestic Springs.”
Project documents indicate the development could provide housing for local residents, foster youth, retirees, and families, while also hosting ministry programs, educational services, childcare, and support resources for vulnerable populations.
County planning officials note that approval of the zoning change would not authorize construction. Additional review and approval of a final development plan would still be required before development could move forward.
The Planning and Zoning Commission has reviewed the proposal and provided recommendations, with the final decision resting with the Lawrence County Commission.
