RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City residents have a new option for emergency medical care after Exceptional Community Hospital officially opened its doors Monday.
Hospital officials say the facility received its first patient by ambulance just 40 minutes after opening. The new hospital is the company’s ninth location and is designed to provide additional emergency and inpatient care services for Rapid City and the surrounding Black Hills.
The 21,000-square-foot facility includes 10 emergency rooms, a trauma bay, an on-site laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, and eight inpatient beds. A surgery center is also planned for the future.
Hospital leaders say the goal is to offer patients another choice for care while helping reduce emergency room wait times at other facilities in the area. Officials noted the first patients on opening day were taken directly to treatment rooms without waiting.
Located near Interstate 90, the hospital is expected to serve residents, travelers, and nearby communities as it expands emergency medical services in western South Dakota.
