RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City’s Legal and Finance Committee is recommending a $10,000 matching contribution to support an upcoming community chili cook-off fundraiser aimed at helping residents struggling with utility bills.
The second annual Community Chili Cook-Off is scheduled for October 27 at the Dahl Arts Center and will benefit the City’s Utility Assist program. The initiative helps qualifying households maintain water, sewer, and garbage services during times of financial hardship.
The program is funded entirely through voluntary donations and is administered through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. City officials say more than $20,000 in utility assistance has been provided to Rapid City residents since October 2025.
The fundraiser will feature local chili-makers competing for People’s Choice honors, with attendees serving as judges through their donations.
City officials say the event is designed to raise money while bringing the community together to support neighbors facing temporary financial challenges.
The committee’s recommendation now moves to the Rapid City Council for final consideration.
