RAPID CITY, S.D. – Visitors to Rapid City Area Schools will now face enhanced security screening under a new districtwide visitor management system launched today.
The system, known as Raptor VisitorSafe, requires anyone going beyond a school’s main office to present a valid photo ID and complete a check-in process.
School officials say the system verifies visitor identities and screens against sex offender registries, protection orders, court orders, and terrorist watch lists. Visitors conducting business only in the main office are not subject to the screening process, and student pickup procedures remain unchanged.
The new platform also includes wearable badges for visitors, volunteers, and contractors, allowing school staff to maintain accountability and improve emergency response capabilities. Guests can also use the badges to request help if needed during an emergency.
RCAS School Safety Manager Matt Sargent says the system adds another layer of protection while helping schools remain welcoming to families and community members.
Frequent visitors will also be able to use a secure mobile app for faster check-ins in the future.
