RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City and Pennington County will receive more than $638,000 in federal disaster assistance to help cover costs from a severe wind storm that struck the area in December 2025.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, announced that Rapid City will receive nearly $469,000 to repair or replace fencing, netting, poles, and other equipment damaged by powerful straight-line winds.
Pennington County is also set to receive nearly $170,000 to help reimburse the cost of debris removal following the storm.
The funding comes through FEMA’s Public Assistance Program, which helps state, local, and tribal governments recover from disasters by covering eligible expenses for infrastructure repairs, emergency response, and cleanup efforts.
Local officials say the funding will help offset costs incurred during recovery efforts and assist both Rapid City and Pennington County as they continue addressing damage from the December storm.
