RAPID CITY, S.D. – Scouts across the Black Hills are preparing for their annual Scouting for Food drive, allowing residents to help local families facing food insecurity.
Members of the Sioux Council, Scouting America, including Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA troops, will distribute donation bags in participating neighborhoods on November 7. Residents are asked to fill the bags with nonperishable food items and leave them outside by 8 a.m. on November 14, when Scouts will return to collect the donations.
The food will be distributed to local food banks and Feeding South Dakota, helping provide meals for children, families, and seniors in need throughout the region.
Organizers say the annual drive not only helps address hunger but also teaches Scouts important lessons in leadership and community service. Suggested donations include canned vegetables, soup, pasta, rice, and peanut butter. Residents are encouraged to donate only unopened, nonperishable items and check expiration dates before giving.
The Sioux Council also thanked local businesses supporting this year’s effort, including The Good Stuffed, The Sugar Shack, and NAPA Auto Parts.
