RAPID CITY, S.D. – Wednesday is the deadline for residents to donate to the RSVP+ donation drive benefiting the Cornerstone Rescue Mission and local veterans.
Organizers say last year’s drive collected more than 1,000 items, but several essential items are still needed this year. The greatest need right now is for winter coats, along with new socks, underwear, hats, and gloves.
Rapid City Public Information Officer Darrell Shoemaker says coat donations are especially important as colder weather arrives in the Black Hills. He noted that only a handful of coats had been donated so far and said new or gently used winter coats can make a significant difference for veterans and others served by the Cornerstone Rescue Mission.
Donors can drop off donations at RSVP+ locations in Rapid City and Spearfish. Organizers ask donors to call ahead before dropping off items to ensure staff can accept the donations.
Officials encourage community members to donate before Wednesday’s deadline to help those in need stay warm through the winter months.
