RAPID CITY, S.D. – A campaign finance complaint involving a contribution to Republican state Senate candidate Taffy Howard has been forwarded to the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office for review.
The complaint was filed by the Pennington County Democratic Party and centers on a reported $5,063 contribution from South Eastern Strategy to Howard’s campaign committee.
According to the complaint, the contribution may exceed South Dakota’s statutory limit of $1,000 for certain campaign donations. Democratic Party officials say the filing is intended to request an official review of the contribution and does not represent a finding of wrongdoing.
State officials will now review the matter to determine whether the contribution complied with South Dakota campaign finance laws and whether any further action is necessary.
No determination has been made, and the complaint remains under review.
