RAPID CITY, S.D. – With Halloween now over, the City of Rapid City’s Solid Waste Division is reminding residents how to properly dispose of or recycle common holiday items.
Officials say non-working strings of lights can be recycled at the Rapid City Landfill or at one of several holiday light collection sites located throughout the city.
Used pumpkins can be thrown away, added to backyard compost piles, or taken to yard waste collection bins at Fitzgerald Stadium, the Nickel Street site, or the Rapid City Landfill.
Residents are encouraged to reuse or donate costumes and masks when possible. If they’re no longer usable, they should be placed in the trash.
Candy wrappers, glow sticks, stretchy spider webs, and similar Halloween decorations are not recyclable and should be disposed of in regular garbage containers.
For more information, residents can contact the Rapid City Solid Waste Division or visit the city’s recycling website.
