RAPID CITY, S.D. – With all votes counted and results still unofficial pending certification, Republicans won both Pennington County Commission races on the ballot Tuesday.
In District 1, Republican Mike Mueller was elected to the commission, defeating independent candidate Leslie Hladysz. Mueller received nearly 62 percent of the vote compared to Hladysz’s 38 percent.
In District 5, Republican Jeffrey Heinis won a closely watched race against Democrat Tim Williams. Heinis secured about 54.5 percent of the vote, while Williams received 45.5 percent.
The victories give Republicans a sweep of the two Pennington County Commission seats contested in this election cycle.
Election officials will canvass and certify the results before they become official.
